An old man told me, “Stay in touch, it will keep you young”.
My granddaughters invited Anne and I to the San Angelo Rodeo. I thought it would be a wonderful way to stay in touch. A little more excitement than I expected, to stay in touch…. I was throughly impressed with the San Angelo Rodeo, we truly enjoyed the rodeo and had no idea that San Angelo rodeo could compete with Ft.Worth and Houston rodeos. San Angelo was in the same league. But the real treat came after the rodeo, when we had to leave and find our car in the parking lot. An added treat was that, it was raining just enough to get us wet. And our granddaughters were in charge of getting us home to Christoval, just 18 or so miles. We got wet before we found the car. But lots of traffic and rain and lighting. Most exciting and my oldest Granddaughter Macy was driving, she just got a drivers licenses. I thought this would be a good test for Macy. She drove us to the local “What-a-Burger”, got a sandwich and then drove us to Christoval, with glaring lights from heavy traffic, rain and plenty of water on the road. She never made a bobble. Certainly a beautiful way to stay in touch with your family and gain faith in your granddaughters. Macy and Emmy did a beautiful job of getting their grandparents home and in bed…….
I am going to be busy today …….Got to get ready to watch the “Kentucky Derby”……..sure beats getting on a boat……….!!!!!!!! Unless you are a sea Captain and need to be afloat……
One hundred and fifty years says a lot for any event to stay alive, not to mention five Million Dollars in the purse, if you win some of the Kentucky Derby. Churchill downs ,147,000 people with fancy attire and big hats, twenty beautiful horses and their jockeys all makes this a good watch on the first Saturday in May. We were busy, but we had the TV on the Peacock Channel ready for the viewing of the Kentucky Derby. Another event was going on that I wanted to see at Ft.Lancaster. Art has always taken a little precedence over horse racing and there was a great Artist preforming at Ft. Lancaster. This gentleman, Kinley Cohen ,Sanderson Texas, was a great Artist that had been preforming his art nearly his whole life and was a master at an art form that had been around for thousands of years. He was a local flint knapper and historian deluxe. Lots of possibilities to study some great reference material for my paintings. Worked out perfect, we had a great visit and I watched him work some flint while he visited with some young flint knapper enthusiast. I bought 3 points, 3 were flint and one was a steel barrel hoop material, that he gave me. I added these to my meager collection of points that I have found through the years and I got back to the house in time to catch the preliminary’s for the Kentucky Derby. It was raining at Churchill Downs but a rain doesn’t stop the race. I thought this would ruin the race. But I couldn’t see any great effect to the race, other than mud everywhere. But the horses and jockeys were full steam ahead and I couldn’t see any great effect to the race other than I had a hard time finding my horse and jockey. They were covered with mud. The greatest joy of seeing the race was the filming of the horses after the race when the cameraman was filming the horses and jockeys covered in mud . There was a sequence of shots of the winning horse and his face was covered with a thin sheet of mud. I couldn’t tell the color or markings of the horse, but his eyes told the story about how much he loved to race and was having the best time in his life just racing. Shit or Blood, Grease or Mud he loved to run………!!!!!!!!!!!
