Shootin’ the Breeze while trailing cattle or horses  was a big infringement of company rules on the hard core outfits.  Visiting on company time was a good way to have the boss get cross ways with you and your visiting partner.   The boss could usually find some extra work after hours if he thought you had enough time to visit while you were on his clock.
